Jennifer Garner Reveals How Matthew McConaughey Stopped Her From Giving Up on her Acting
And she still adores him for that. “How much do I love that guy? I know a lot.” She got sentimental when she remembered her physical struggle during her time on the sets of “Dallas Buyers Club.”
There was a time when Jennifer Garner just
wanted to leave it all, and if it weren’t for Matthew McConaughey, she would
have been long gone.
The actress known for
her role in the film “Alias” has worked with the actor in the films “Ghosts of
Girlfriends Past” and “Dallas Buyers Club.” She has confessed in her latest
interview that she suffered from a series of professional setbacks after
becoming a mother of three children.
She had taken a step down from the Hollywood
limelight before she landed a role in the Academy Award-nominated film “Dallas
Buyers Club,”; a film which boosted both Mathew McConaughey and Jared Leto to
an Academy Award win in 2014.
In her interview with PBS’s Kelly Corrigan,
the 48-year-old actress revealed that her agent had warned that if she didn’t
take the role offered for the film “Dallas Buyers Club,” she would have to
consider retirement. Like any other woman dealing with pregnancy, she struggled
to manage her professional and personal life. Even her comeback role in “Dallas
Buyers Club” was also a daunting task for her as she was still breastfeeding
her 9-month-old son when the production had commenced.
The 21-day rigorous schedule of the film could
have been an uphill climb for anyone as the actors Mathew McConaughey, and
Jared Leto were also going through a rigorous weight loss and their appetite at
that time was also dangerously low.
She remarked about the most challenging day of
her career, which eventually pushed her to a breaking point. As she explained
in the interview, there was a scene, which was a light-hearted bedtime scene,
but due to her physical pain, she lost her way and started crying. She panicked
and made an impulsive decision to cry out loud that she wants to quit.
She explained that all she wanted to do at
that moment was to go home and be with her kids.
“I can’t do this anymore,” she remembered
saying at that moment.
And only at that moment did Mathew McConaughey
stepped up to help her. He pulled her aside and asked, “what’s going on?”
The actress got emotional in the interview,
and in her eyes, there was hardly anything else but gratitude for the actor.
Mathew McConaughey then proceeded to inform the crew that the actress needed a
minute, which allowed her to have her private moment in the washroom.
The actress said with a smile that from
thereon McConaughey helped her in every single instance she needed to go to the
washroom.
She also recalled his encouraging words, which
kept reminding her that she can nail both the job-acting and mothership.
The duo’s understanding of the sets of “Dallas
Buyers Club” started a very cute friendship, still pretty much alive.
Jennifer Garner had also thanked the actor
before being so sensitive and kind when she won the 28th Cinematheque Award. In
her speech, she had also thanked three other actresses from the acting
fraternity, Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon, and Jessica Chastain.
She parted ways with her ex-husband Ben
Affleck in 2018.
