The upcoming movie of James Bond, No Time to Die, might get delayed again
Cary Joji Fukunaga’s upcoming film No Time to Die is the 25th installment of the James Bond franchise. The movie stars Daniel Craig, Rami Malek, Léa Seydoux, Lashana Lynch, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, and Jeffrey Wright.
The development of the movie started in
2016. The film will also be the first movie distributed under Universal
Pictures. Initially, director Danny Boyle was attached to the project to
co-write and direct the screenplay with the Scottish screenwriter John Hodge.
However, both of them left the project in August 2018 due to some creative
differences. Later Fukunaga was hired for the director’s chair.
No Time to Die was originally scheduled
to release in November 2019. The project was then delayed several times due to
many reasons, including Boyle’s resignation and the COVID-19 pandemic. Now the
movie is planned for 2 April 2021 release.
The plot of the movie is set five years
after the arrest of Ernst Stavro Blofeld. In all these years, James Bond has
resigned from his active service. Bond’s friend Felix Leiter approaches him for
help in one of the cases. Leiter is a CIA officer and wants Bond’s assistance
in search of a missing scientist, Valdo Obruchev. When the team finds out that
Obruchev has been kidnapped, Bond jumps into the case and confronts the
criminals.
There was hope that everything would
start to improve in 2021 after the announcement of the vaccine. However, there
is no such noticeable huge shift. The cases of coronavirus infected people keep
on increasing. And many countries have called out for national lockdown.
According to Deadline, the team of No
Time to Die might push back the release date after fall 2021. However, they
have not yet decided on any specific release date. The production has not yet
made the official announcement. The promotional partner of the movie also
informed the possible delay of the movie No Time to Die.
The movie will stick to its plan of
theatrical release and would not opt for another alternative releasing platform
like video on demand. There were speculations of selling the rights to a
streaming platform last year. But, MGM asked for a huge amount of $600 million,
and the studio made no deal.
In this situation of lockdown, it won’t
be a smart idea to release a movie theatrically as around 65% of U.S. theaters
are closed right now. Hopefully, the most awaited film will soon decide its
final release date.
