How to find Private or Public IP Address of a device
Always when a PC connects with a network, it gets assigned
with an IP address. If it connects with both network and the internet, then it
is assigned with an internal IP address, which defines its location in the
local network, and an external IP address, which is the IP address of the
internet connection. An IP address (Internet protocol address) is a numerical
address used in networks to locate and identify the network devices. If a
computer connects directly to a gateway provided by ISP, then it gets a public
IP address and a private IP address when connects with a router in the home
network. Sometimes, an IP address is required to connect a computer with the
internet. So, here are some ways to find the IP address of a computer.
Way 1: Find IP address in Settings of your Windows PC
1. Click on the ‘Start’ button.
2. Open ‘Windows Settings.’
3. Open ‘Network & Internet’ settings.
4. Click ‘Ethernet’ in the left menu.
5. Click on the ‘Connected network’ at the
right side.
6. Under “Properties” your PC’s IP address
is labeled as IPv4 address.
The number in front of “IPv4 address:” is the IP address of
your PC.
Way 2: Find the IP address from the Task Manager of your
PC
If your PC is running on Windows 10 or Windows 8., then you
can find its IP address in Task Manager, here is how.
1. Right click on the ‘Start’ button.
2. Select ‘Task Manager’ from the menu.
3. Open ‘Performance’ tab.
4. Click ‘Ethernet’ or ‘Wi-Fi’ from the
left side.
5. On the right side panel, your PC’s IP
address is labeled as IPv4 address.
The number in front of “IPv4 address:” is the IP address of
your PC.
Way 3: Find IP address using Command Prompt in Windows
This is a timesaving and straightforward way to find the IP
address in Windows PC and works in almost all Windows.
1. Press ‘Win + X’ key on the keyboard.
2. Type ‘ipconfig’ in the Command Prompt
window.
3. Press ‘Enter’ key.
4. Below your entered command, your PC’s
IP address is labeled as IPv4 address.
The number in front of “IPv4 address:” is the IP address of
your PC.
Way 4: Find IP address in the Control Panel in Windows
1. Click on the ‘Start’ button.
2. Click ‘Control Panel.’
3. Type ‘adapter’ in the search box.
4. Go to the “Network and Sharing Center.”
5. Click ‘View network connections.’
6. Click ‘Change adapter.’
7. Select your active network connection.
8. Click ‘View status of this connection’
in the top toolbar.
9. Click ‘Details…’ button in the Ethernet
Status window.
10. Under “Network Connections Details:”
your PC’s IP address is labeled as IPv4 address.
The number in front of “IPv4 address:” is the IP address of
your PC.
Or, enter ‘ncpa.cpl’ in ‘Run command’ box > right click
on active network connection > select ‘Status’ > click ‘Details’ button.
Way 5: Find your Public IP address with a Search Engine
You can use Google or Bing to find your public or external
IP address. A public or external IP address is the address of a router or modem
you’re using, and it can be seen on the internet.
1. Open ‘Google or Bing’ on your browser.
2. Type ‘IP address’ in the search bar.
3. Press ‘Enter’. That’s it! In the search
results, you can see “Your Public IP address.” You can do this on Bing, Google,
DuckDuckGo, Ask, and some other search engines except Yahoo.
