Failure Being Experienced by the Gaming Industry While Selling its Most Important Products

It has been difficult for many people to get their hands on Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, which were recently launched. The consoles pre-ordering situation has been a roller coaster ride, and one question that every potential buyer is asking is why the companies are failing at pre-orders?

It is confusing and hard to answer the question, especially when other companies like Apple and Facebook-owned Oculus have managed to get through the same without creating chaos.

Talking about the companies failing at pre-order situations, there’s no definite figure as to how many units are already sold or when are they planning to re-stock. All we know is if you haven’t received a confirmation email, you’re still in a queue to get the new PlayStation, Nvidia, Xbox, or AMD graphics card.

It is a more complicated situation than it seems as some big companies have been selling their products for ages without any issues arising. Not only this, but they have managed to build strong retailer relationships, achieved expertise in supply chain management, and managed global inventories.

Even Microsoft had a fairly harsh go when the organization opened pre-orders for Xbox Series X and Series S, despite the fact that it was in a better situation than Sony’s. Microsoft prepared its fans well ahead of time with appropriate planning for when Xbox Series X and Series S prep-orders would go live in their region. However, when the pages went live, blunders began to skyrocket.

Many potential buyers communicated issues like disappearing of the consoles from their cart even before the items went ‘out of stock.’ Not only this, but others reported that they have been facing issues while trying to process the payment.

Nvidia came forward and apologized to its consumers mentioning that they weren’t prepared for such high demand for their product. They also said that they received ten times more traffic than its previous launch.

They followed the same and apologized about Sony, saying that they’ll be releasing more consoles for pre-ordering soon.

If you look at the situation positively, it is a chance of development for the companies as the demand is higher than the supply, and the companies won’t have to go through the stress of their products not selling. For instance, a company like Nintendo produces limited units, which somewhat build interest in its buyers, as it’ll then remain unavailable for a while once the product goes out of stock.

As Black Friday sales are approaching, we can see retailers stating that Xbox Series X and PS5 will be available for purchase. However, it’ll be a good move not to raise hopes as the same situation is likely to arrive when you keep checking for the products to come back in stock.

Certain companies like Apple try and sell as many units as the public demands each year. Talking about the video game industry, it is hard to say if the issue is likely to get fixed or not. Not only this, but the case seems like the companies don’t even bother about the situation
